Founder & CEO, ZACC MYTOWN (Zara Aisyah Care Centre)
It was supposed to be a quiet evening at ZACC MYTOWN.
Dinner was done, the residents were resting, and our caregivers were preparing for night duty.
Then — suddenly — total darkness.
The power went out. The generator didn’t start.
Panic began to creep in.
We had residents on oxygen, dementia patients unsettled by the dark, and staff trying their best to hold everything together.
One caregiver used her phone flashlight to monitor oxygen levels, another fanned a resident to keep her calm, while our nurse whispered prayers in between checking vital signs.
When the power finally came back, everyone was safe.
No panic, no injury — just a group of exhausted yet proud caregivers who proved that heart matters more than any SOP.
That night taught me something I carry to this day:
“You can train skill, but you can’t train heart. Either you have it — or you don’t.”
Not every moment ends with relief.
In my early years running ZACC MYTOWN, I faced something I will never forget.
It was a calm, bright afternoon.
I had just served tea and kueh to one of our elderly residents. We read a small book together, laughed a little, and she smiled before lying down for her nap.
An hour later, she was gone.
Peacefully.
Just like that.
No pain, no complaint, no goodbye.
It broke me inside.
I remember sitting beside her in silence, realizing how fragile life truly is.
And then came the hardest part — breaking the news to her family.
I had watched scenes like this in movies before — doctors gently delivering bad news to loved ones, choosing the right words, holding the right tone.
But this time, it was me.
There was no script, no rehearsal. Just a trembling heart trying to stay strong for a grieving family
That moment changed me. It taught me that caregiving is not only about keeping someone alive, but also about guiding families through the most painful moments of goodbye.
That was when I learned what caregiving really means — not just to care for life, but to honour the moment it ends.
To be there with kindness, respect, and faith.
It’s a privilege and a heartbreak rolled into one.
Through nights of chaos and days of quiet grief, my team and I learned the true meaning of resilience.
We didn’t crumble when things went wrong. We acted, cared, and rose above every challenge together.
Those two moments — the night the lights went out and the day my resident didn’t wake up — shaped the soul of ZACC MYTOWN.
They remind us that caregiving isn’t a job.
It’s a calling.
In elderly care, every day is unpredictable.
Systems may fail. People may leave. Lives may end.
But compassion, teamwork, and faith — these are the lights that never go out.
At ZACC MYTOWN and MYCARETUA Academy, we don’t just teach caregiving skills.
We nurture hearts strong enough to serve — even when everything goes wrong.
And at the end of the day, what matters most is this:
Keep doing good.
Keep doing right.
Keep serving wholeheartedly.
Bloom your heart, and enjoy the ride — because life is too short to take anything for granted.
